In the Zone



We can all think of a bad day at work, but can you think of any time when you were "in the zone" - a moment where you enjoyed your task, you were caught up in your work and lost track of time? What were you doing at that moment? What skills were you using? What was it that caused you to be passionate about the work? Understanding the answers to these questions will often help you better understand how to best use your time and talents - a calling.

"With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith." - 2 Thessalonians 1:12

A calling is when we are passionately using our God-given gifts in a way that pleases Him. We are not talking about your personality profile, but about those God-given gifts listed in the Bible like teaching, counseling, generosity, administration, and prayer, among many others.

When we find ourselves involved with God at work, we also begin to find the work we were meant to do.

The Main Thing



When Jesus lived among us He was asked a very important question by the top religious leaders of his day, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”


"Jesus answered, 'The most important [commandment] is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your STRENGTH.’” - Mark 12:29-31

We need to love God with all of our strength. That means all of our energy. It’s interesting that the gospel of Mark uses for "strength" also means "ability." I love that. Because what does that tell us about loving God? It means that God has given all of us talents and abilities. And when we use those talents and abilities in church, or in vocation, or in relationships with others, we can approach it one of two ways – we can seek glory for ourselves or look to glorify God.

How, then, do you love God with ALL your strength? I believe it boils down to sacrifice and surrender.

Today is the Last Day of some of your Life


If you received an official notice today that this is your last day to live, what would you do? Would you try to make more money, or stay late at the office working hard? Would you spend time with your family, or express thanks to those who've helped you along the way? Would you seek to get right with God?


“Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives' tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance.” 1 Timothy 4:7-9

God became a man in the person of Jesus to show us how. Start there, and show your family how much you love them. Surprise them by occasionally coming home early. Tell them you love them. Plan fun things to do with them. Help someone you care about--someone who needs you at the office, in the neighborhood, or maybe someone who needs a friend.

It may not be the last day you live here on earth, but it may become a great day for you and those you care about.

Joy to the World


By now you've probably discovered that even a room full of shiny new Christmas gifts won't bring lasting joy. Once the newness of the gift wears off, the joy starts to fade. Presents get lost, toys get broken, and dreams of long-lived happiness begin to evaporate. The truth is, nothing in this earthly life offers unending joy.

When Jesus came into the world in human form, he changed our relationship with God forever. He made it possible for us to become adopted sons and daughters in God's family, co-heirs with him to the gift of eternal life with the Father. But he gave us another Christmas gift few of us ever open: his friendship. He experienced firsthand the loneliness of being human, and he saw that as much as we need a savior, we also need a friend.

What better friend could you have? Jesus is steadfastly loyal. He forgives your every fault. He supports and encourages you when you need it most, and he listens whenever you want to talk. He is a tireless listener. Jesus loves you as a friend who wants to see you grow to your full potential. There is no jealousy in him. He wants only the best for you. Enter more deeply into friendship with Jesus this Christmas season. You can trust him. If you reach out and accept the friendship he offers, your life will never be the same. This is the message of the Gospel that we celebrate at Christmas—God's pronouncement of everlasting Joy to the World!

Jesus Our Hope


For millions of people, the Christmas season means nothing more than parties, gifts, decorations, and time off work. For Christians, however, this time of year is a happy reminder of the hope we have because of Jesus Christ. Before Jesus came, God seemed distant, hidden in the Holy of Holies in the temple, accessible only to the high priest. Worshippers wondered whether their sacrifices were acceptable. They doubted their salvation. Christ means hope—to the person out of work, to the struggling single mother, to the dying believer. Even if you're just slogging your way through the disappointments in life, if you have Jesus, you have hope. And he is not a false hope, a childish fairy tale that we wish will have a happy ending. When Christ rose from the dead, that ended the argument. Period. Our hope in him is solid and it is real. Christmas is a renewal of that hope. It reconfirms it for us if our vision has grown dim. It was settled long ago, so we don't have to doubt any more. Jesus is the fulfillment of our hope, our deepest longings come true.

The Word Became Flesh



At Christmas we celebrate the birth of Jesus. When he came into the world as a baby, he was sent from heaven to earth to become the living expression of the Father God. This was the gift he brought. His very life would speak to us everything that God ever wanted to say to us about himself. What an amazing gift!



In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.


He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:1-5,10-12,14

The Son is the Spoken Word, the living expression of all that God has ever sought to communicate about Himself.

Forgiveness Focuses Forward


As we come to the end of the year, so often we look back with regret on things we did not accomplish, or resolutions long forgotten. But sin is one thing we should never need to look back on with feelings of failure. If we have confessed our sins and asked God's forgiveness we simply need to keep a forward focus toward the goal of pleasing Christ.


"Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3 :12-14

Eternal Glory



If our present day situation is disturbing to us, perhaps there's something beyond our natural sight in the works, but not yet accomplished. The trouble we face today may be achieving an eternal purpose so much better than we can imagine. Remember that what we see right now is only temporary. What is most important, though we may not yet be able to see it, is eternal.


"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18


Prospects of eternal glory keep believers from fainting under troubles.

Pleasing in Your Sight


The words we speak are reflections of our thoughts and meditations. These God-pleasing thoughts and words become pleasing in his sight because they will motivate us to Christ-like actions - that are seen and not just heard. Are your thoughts and words pleasing to the Lord every day and not just at Christmas or on Sunday mornings? Do you keep the spirit of Christmas alive in your heart all throughout the year?


"May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer." Psalm 19:14

A Christmas Candle



We are like a candle that holds the flame, burning strong and bright the light of Christ. We softly give ourselves away in worship of Him and service for Him, that we might become less and less, and that He might become greater and brighter through us.

Is there anything more exciting than being a child on Christmas morning? And yet this is what God asks of us each day, to change and become like little children. Not just on Christmas, but each day approaching our Father, God as a child, with excited anticipation of His goodness, and humbly trusting Him that every need will be met and every care will be under His control.

Not Alone at All



When you feel the most alone, it may be the very moment when you are truly "least" alone at all. God is there in your darkest night and coldest wind. He may be so close you cannot see Him, but He is there. And perhaps He has chosen this moment to pull you closer to Him than you have ever been before.

Make Room for More



We have heard people say, "You can't out-give God." Well, you can't out-give yourself either! You don't need to be wealthy to possess a giving heart. Give a smile, lend an ear, extend a hand. However you give, God's promise is tried and tested, and you'll see the blessings return multiplied back to you.

Wonderful Impossibilities


The birth of Jesus was not just a difficulty, it was an impossiblity. Mary was a virgin. Only God could breath life into her womb. And just as God caused her to conceive the perfect sinless Savior - fully God, fully human - He can accomplish through you, those things that seem impossible in your life.

God is with Us “Immanuel”























All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’).

"The implications of the name 'Immanuel' are both comforting and unsettling. Comforting, because He has come to share the danger as well as the drudgery of our everyday lives. He desires to weep with us and to wipe away our tears. All of this occurred to fulfill the Lord’s message through his prophet: “Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son,and they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us. Matthew 1:22-24



Why do we turn to God so quickly in times of sorrow and struggle, in danger and fear, and forget Him in the times of joy and rejoicing? If God is the giver of joy and He is "God with us," then He must want to share in those moments of great joy - and even those times of silly laughter and fun.

Each year we are reminded that Christmas should not be just about giving and receiving presents. But if we really think about Christmas, it truly is all about gift giving! At Christmas we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the greatest gift ever given, by the greatest gift-giver of all, our wonderful God and Father!

LEAD LIKE JESUS

peace.


it does not mean to be in a place

where there is no noise, trouble

or hard work. it means to be in

the midst of those things and still

be calm in your heart.




Often we have the opportunity to help calm disagreements that arise in the lives of those around us. Varied viewpoints and differing methods can cause friction. When that friction is not addressed, it can grow and become a real disruption. Calming words, a listening ear and an unbiased perspective helps to ease the friction. When friction is lessened, it sets the stage for addressing the real issues in a peaceful manner. Scripture points out that sowing peace in the midst of difficulties will eventually bring about a good harvest.


But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness. James 3:17-18


Dear Lord, You are perfect peace. I ask You today to teach me how to be a peacemaker. Help me learn how to sow peace. Give me words of wisdom, calmness, and clarity. Allow me to see Your solutions. May Your peace flow through me as I lead others. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Seeking the Lord's guidance is a priority in planning for the future. His way requires us to step out of our comfort zone, to be diligent and prepared. We may need to do some things we haven't done before. He wants us to move forward and not hold back. He will give us the courage needed to accomplish the goals in His plan.




Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes. Isaiah 54:2


Dear Lord, push me out of my comfort zone today. Keep me focused on the task at hand, knowing that You are beside me. Give me strength to carefully prepare for the possibilities before me. Help me to not hesitate, but to lead others boldly as You direct. Thank You that I can trust Your vision for the future. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Are you a Team Player?



We find many believers doing their own thing. Running the race, but never planting any seed or any doing any watering. Many have a goal of reaching Heaven, but forget about the one next to them that has lost their way or never even knowing there is a way.


Running the race can be a great thing.


Marathoners start the race with sometimes hundreds, even thousands of people. In the process, people fall down due to the large numbers at the beginning of the race and the rest of the pack continues. No one cheers, but all cameras continue with the lead person or show the anguish of the person that hit the ground. For sure not a team sport.





All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines. The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 1 Corinthians 12:11-13

Can you imagine watching a football, baseball or soccer game and having a player hurt on the field, never even pausing for the one laying on the field, hurting from a possible life threatening injury, but everyone else continues with the game. Even with all the big investments on Pro-Sports, they stop and take the injured off the field and the crowd stands and claps to encourage the injured player.


As Team players we must:


Give them water when they thirst.

Nurture them in the learning process.

Picked them up when they fall.

Celebrate their Victories.


As Believers the only way we can truly follow Jesus Christ is to be a Team Player.
